Russell built 4 different gas tractors, the 30-60, or "The Giant" the 20-40, or "Big Boss," the 15-30, or "Little Boss," and a 10-20, known as "The Junior." According to the National Russell Collectors Association there are 14 complete Russell Tractors left.
The 10-20, first rated 12-24 was built for a 24" thresher or 2 plow bottoms. It had 53" drive wheels. The 10-20 had an overall weight of 5500 pounds. They were built with a four cylinder L-Head engine, produced by Waukesha that had a 4 1/4" and 5 3/4" stroke. Sometime before 1917, the 12-24 was re-rated to 10-20. The 10-20s, or "Juniors" built with a 3 speed enclosed transmission. The 15-30, or "Little Boss" was built for 2-3 bottoms, or a 27" seperator. Like the Junior, it had 53" drivers and was powered by a Waukesha four cylinder engine. However, it had a 4 1/2" bore and 6 3/4 stroke. It too had a 3 speed transmission.
The 30-60, or "Giant" was their first model. It was a massive machine with 84" drive wheels and an overall weight of around 23,000 pounds. It was powered by a 4 cylinder engine of their own design. The bore was 8" and the stroke was 10," which amounts to a displacement of 2010.6 cubic inches. The Giant was rated to pull 8-10 bottoms, or power a 36" thresher. Unlike most tractors in its class, the Russell Giant had two forward speeds. Below are some pictures of our 30-60, number 2055.
